My name is Adam Ohrt. I am 32 years old and currently live in Des Moines Iowa. I am the layout artist for Black Bird Magazine. I grew up in Iowa and have lived here most of my life except for about 5 years in which I lived in Kansas City Missouri. I am a lab technician at LensCrafters and spend most of my days cutting lenses and making eyewear. I have many hobbies. I have played drums since I was about 10 years old and have been in various bands throughout the years. Drums are my main passion and nothing clears my mind like jamming with my friends for hours on end. I am also a massage therapist although I let my license expire but plan to reapply soon. I am also an avid photographer. This is a skill I am currently working to improve to a point of using it in a work setting. In 2011 I decided that I had better start a career up and went back to school. I received my associates in graphic design with honors. I am now spending time looking for the perfect job that will blend my passions (not all of them at the same time) together. I live with my girlfriend Stefanie who is an amazing hair stylist and we have a fat cat named Pearl who refuses to go on a diet.
Alexander Bradfield, who likes to be referred to as Alex because he isn’t a stickler about these kinds of things, is the newest addition to the Black Bird journal. As a layout artist, it is his responsibility to format the articles in the black bird style and corresponding artwork. He breaks things up into paragraphs, lots and lots of paragraphs. A proud graduate from the University of Iowa, he has done design work for the International Professors Project in Vermont, as well as the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum in Los Angeles. He made various flyers and two entire newsletters, all at the ripe old age of 25. An avid reader and artist, he enjoys learning about new subjects, exploring more about the ones already does, he calls himself a graphic novel enthusiast, because it doesn’t sound as stupid as “comic book geek.” Is a fan of the works of Jack Kirby, Duane McDuffie, Keith Giffen, and Althia Martinez among many other creative people that this Bio doesn’t have room for. He also enjoys weightlifting, cooking, watching stuff on hulu, listening to music on youtube and yoga, yes yoga, lots of guys do it, he doesn’t want his spine to turn into a husk as he ages. However the thing he enjoys the least is referring to himself in the third person, the only person he knows that can do that is The Rock. He also has a sense of humor that can be described as deadpan, or dry.
Cameron Peterson is a recent graduate from Wartburg College with a degree in Graphic Design. He currently resides in the small town of Bondurant, Iowa just outside of Des Moines. He is a layout designer for Black Bird Magazine. He also spent three seasons there playing soccer as a goalkeeper. Soccer is a huge passion of his, whether it is playing it, watching it or coaching his local high school team. His favorite professional team is the mighty red devils of Manchester United.
Cameron currently works a design intern for Perfection Learning in Clive, while also providing layout design for Black Bird magazine. As an intern he is focused on learning and soaking up as much knowledge as possible while also contributing to his company. Being a designer means learning from the best and applying that knowledge throughout his career.
Some of Cameron’s hobbies include soccer, reading, traveling and hanging out with friends. Being a world traveler is vital in growing as a designer because the influence of culture can only help lead him to greatness in his opinion. He has visited the foreign lands of England, Mexico and Spain and picked up many important influences along the way. He hopes to one day return to England and possibly live there.
