Dead Dog & Other American Tales is a collection of 15 stories in the style of short American fiction. It began development in early 2016, and was envisioned as a study of late 20th and early 21st century American culture. The stories explore the nature of love, loss, and the American family. M.P. Eckstein was eight years old when his parents divorced. After the split, he and his brothers and sisters settled down with their mother in the small town of Nevada, IA. There he attended public school, made friends, and worked several hours a week to help cover basic necessities. After he graduated from high school, he joined the Iowa National Guard, hoping to earn money for college. In 2008, he deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. After his tour of duty, he attended college at Iowa State University in Ames, eventually earning a Bachelor of Science with a minor in English.
Today, he lives with his wife in Des Moines, where he works full-time and writes as often as possible.
